Lighting "Notias" at Astir Vouliagmeni
On Vouliagmeni beach, the new sculpture “Notias” was installed and illuminated, a work of contemporary aesthetics that now adorns the area’s coastline.
The sculpture, inspired by the maritime identity of the area and the dynamic of the southerly wind (notias), combines natural stone and a metallic element, creating a composition that evokes a sail in motion. The morphology of the work, with its curves and sharp edges, required special study for its enhancement through lighting.
Our intervention involved the architectural lighting of the work, aiming to highlight the texture of the stone, the geometry of the composition, and the sense of movement it exudes, both during the evening hours and from a distance.
A low-consumption, high-efficiency LED linear lighting system was installed around the base of the sculpture, creating a uniform upward wash of light (uplighting). This achieves:
- Emphasis on the texture and natural imperfections of the stone
- Highlighting of the metallic element and its suspension
- Creation of intense yet discreet chiaroscuro
- Enhancement of visibility and safety in the surrounding area
The equipment used is certified for outdoor installations, with a high degree of waterproofing and resistance to coastal environments. Special care was given to resistance to salt spray and the long-term reliability of the system, due to its immediate proximity to the sea.
The result is a discreet yet dynamic lighting scheme that transforms the sculpture into a landmark of the Vouliagmeni coastal zone, highlighting its artistic identity and enhancing the overall aesthetics of the public space.
